Taylor Lord + PV Takeover + Day 2

Stephen Wood

@taylorlord Takeover Day 2: I chose this photo for one specific reason—okay, maybe two. First of all, I absolutely loved this bride, for the love between her and her groom, and for her DRESS! This was before the long-sleeved dress was becoming a trend, and it was SO innovative! Secondly, this wedding has always been a reminder to me that being generous pays you back tenfold, every time. This bride had just fired her previous wedding photographer and had contacted me, but she had lost her deposit and had only half her original budget. I was uncertain whether it was going to work out, but after talking with her, I just had a feeling we would be a good fit and I decided to help. I’m SO thankful that I did. Not only was I able to capture some amazing images for her (and my portfolio!), but one of her photos was selected as the cover for @bridesofnorthtx, a local magazine here in Dallas! Remember—a little generosity can go a long way.

@taylorlord Takeover Day 2: SYMMETRY is my JAM. Like, down to the quarter inch, you guys. I love symmetry. (Or asymmetry, if that’s your intention!) Nothing makes me love a composition more than when it’s symmetrical! It’s like a nice little break for your eyes!

@taylorlord Takeover Day 2: As much as I love the seriousness of the fine art style, I equally love capturing the emotional happiness and love between two people who are getting married soon. I love to get up in people’s personal space while shooting! It creates a different level of intimacy between the viewer and the subject, making the viewer feel as though they’re right there with them, experiencing that same happiness and love!

Erich McVey + PV takeover + Day 1

Stephen Wood

Hey, everyone! @erichmcvey here, and I am so excited to be taking over PhotoVision's Instagram account for the next week. To kick things off, I wanted to share an image from one of the first shoots I ever did on film. I had just attended @josevilla's workshop, at which I shot film for the first time. (I need to pause here and quickly mention that Jose is not only an incredible photographer but also an amazingly supportive, generous and kind person who shares his love of film and photography freely with others. I owe him a heck of a lot in my own personal journey as a photographer, and I am so thankful for all that he continues to do for the industry.) So, back to this image. It was the off season here in Oregon - a snowy day in February - and my wife, Amy, and I wanted to put together a shoot just for fun. We had our friend @meredithadelaide model, and Amy did the styling and hair and makeup. This frame is from the end of the day, after the sun had set. It was super dark, but we had the light of the fire to help us out. I shot this on Portra 800 at 1/15, my hands so froze. I could barely press down the shutter. I had no idea if it would turn out, and was so thrilled when I got the scans back from PhotoVision. It looked even better than I had hoped. The shoot was clearly not wedding related at all, but as wedding photographers, it is so important to sometimes step outside our comfort zone and create for no other reason than to create.

This image, shot on #fuji400h, was taken during an elopement in Big Sur. With no one present but their officiant, Jane & John exchanged vows on a secluded part of the coastline overlooking the Pacific Ocean in what was one of the most special, intimate days I’ve ever witnessed.

There’s nothing better than working with creatives who push limits, bring unique inspiration and energy to a shoot, and are passionate about what they do. This image was taken at @pearlandgodiva's #stylingpilgrimage workshop in Ireland. I loved working with the wonderful team that came together to create something special, including @sarah_winward, @lora_kelley, @_emilyriggsbridal, @kristinhayesjewelry and @stephaniefishwick
