Ivy and Gold Takeover + PV Takeover + Day 1

PhotoVision Team

Hello there! I’m Kelsee, from @ivyandgoldphotography, and I’m so honored (and, let’s be honest, a little nervous) to be hosting a #pvtakeover! I’m lucky enough to live 10 minutes away from #PhotoVision, so I know first hand that these guys are awesome. I’m so excited to share my thoughts on inspiration, taking risks and embracing your own unique creative voice with you these next few days. I’ve had a camera in my hands for as long as I can remember, and started my business when I was 18. When I’m not taking photos, I love hanging out at home with my husband, David, and our cat, DJ Roomba, listening to vinyl, thrift shopping and hanging out at coffee shops. I hope to get to know some of you a bit more during this takeover, so please don’t hesitate to say hello or ask questions along the way!

@ivyandgoldphotography #pvtakeover Day 1: Something that I’ve found to be absolutely invaluable as a photographer is actively seeking out inspiration from sources *other* than photos. I’ve found that while I love taking in inspiration from other photographers, they shouldn't be my only resource. I don’t want my art to just be a knock-off or replication of other photos or poses I’ve seen and admired. I want my images to contain storytelling elements that are unique to my vision and the subjects I’m photographing. SO, I seek out inspiration in other places!
What inspires me?
+Changing of seasons—the sounds, the smells, the colors, the textures, the temperature, the moods
+Nature/people interacting with nature
+Song lyrics, books, quotes and poetry
+Hands—i.e. the hands of an artist at work; a couple holding hands; a mother stroking her child’s hair, etc.
+COLOR
+Flowers, flowers, flowers
+Light! (Sounds cliché, but it’s true.)
Pay attention to what you’re naturally drawn to. I’d even encourage you to make a list! It won’t be the same for all of us, and that’s a *good* thing. Different experiences, different perspectives and different sources of inspiration are what help us each create unique art!

@ivyandgoldphotography #pvtakeover Day 1: As I mentioned in my last post, I’m wildly inspired by nature. Getting to know @ponderosa_and_thyme has really expanded the way I see florals. The colors, textures and one-of-a-kind shapes fill me with wonder—I no longer see them as props, but as strong, live elements within a photo. This bouquet, made by @layeredvintage during her 1:1 with @ponderosa_and_thyme, was full of movement, and I loved the way the flowering rosemary wrapped around the side of our model, @elderoak_and_thorn. Now, when I see a bridal bouquet, I try to find the elements that can be interacted with, instead of just taking a stagnant photo of it. I’ve found that this can help me tune into my creativity on a wedding day, as well as create unique images for each bride!

@ivyandgoldphotography #pvtakeover Day 1: “If the world could remain within a frame, like a photo on the wall, then I think we’d see the beauty then, and stand staring in awe.” (“Bowl of Oranges” by Bright Eyes @conoroberst) No matter what I’m photographing, my deepest desire and truest goal as a photographer is to notice, and capture, all the little moments that are so often overlooked. To create something beautiful from them, and inspire viewers to take in and experience their own moments, their own memories, more fully, grasping the richness and depth that everyday life has to offer.
