@kelseaholderphoto #pvtakeover Day 3: STAY IN THE MOMENT. 🌿 The bride was getting her makeup done and the bridesmaids were hanging out in the bridal suite getting their hair and makeup done. I had some extra time and knew I wanted some different shots from my “usual,” which I had already completed. I saw Femi sitting on the edge of the bed here, looking absolutely stunning in this perfect light, and thought, “Oh my goodness, you look so beautiful right now. We have to make something happen!” I had the other bridesmaids join her on the bed, pointing their knees away from camera to keep it feminine, soft and flattering. I handed Femi olive branches from a vase that was decorating the suite to add an element of color—and serve as a nod to the olive trees outside the villa and the olive branches used in the wedding decor. Had I not been present, observing my surroundings, I may never have gotten this beautiful image and precious memory for my bride and her girls.

@kelseaholderphoto #pvtakeover Day 3: UNINHIBITED. 🖤 After working hard all wedding season to bring my client’s visions to life, sometimes I want to do something for myself. At the end of my season, I had this vision come to me of pigments and charcoal and texture. My friend is an artist and I reached out to her, asking if she wanted to come to my studio and play around with charcoal. I pictured this gritty, B+W shoot, void of most color. It started as a really minimalistic beauty shoot. I had bought all these charcoal sticks and had her break them into pigment and dip her hands into it. Then I told her to go crazy. Smear the charcoal all over my studio walls. She was like, “Really?!” I assured her it was fine. So she rubbed her hands all over my white painted wall. She already had her whole hands coated in charcoal, and our “pretty beauty shots” were already in the bag, so I asked her to bring her hands to her face and neck. She began to let the pigment fall onto her skin, and it was just. So. Beautiful. After she did this, I would have her look into the lens. And that’s how this shot was born. I had that charcoal on my walls for 2 weeks before I painted over it. I share my studio space with a MUA and she would have clients come in and wonder, “What is going on?!” She would just smile and explain, “I share the space with a photographer. She’s a little weird.” 😂 Thanks for hanging in there @makeup_amanda!! 😉

@kelseaholderphoto #pvtakeover Day 3: DON’T IGNORE YOUR INSTINCT. 💙 There’s always inspiration that bubbles up from within me and I get so excited. But often times, this happens when I’m in the middle of work! When I’m already busy and my nerves are pressed, it’s really tempting to push these thoughts aside and never bring them to life. But once I got my own studio space, it became easier to breathe into my visions and let them grow. It’s freeing to create for yourself, outside the constraints and worry of (what can also be a wonderful) collaboration. Yes, it is easy to self doubt, to wonder what others think. But it’s actually easier to just go for it when you’re *not* looking over your shoulder, or at others. This also holds true in aspects of business as well. Trust your instincts. And trust your gut. You never really know what you can create unless you give space for your inspiration to flourish. Go for it. Make it happen. 🌟

@kelseaholderphoto #pvtakeover Day 3: STAGES. As someone who started out insanely shy, I can say I’ve come a long way, and photography is 100% what pushed me out of my shell. I went from “high school Kelsea”—whose head was in a book, who rarely uttered a word to anyone outside of close friends and who would sweat if you even made eye contact—to “photographer Kelsea”—who meets new people and immediately makes them feel at ease with a camera in their face! Looking back, I never expected to get to this stage in my career. Honestly, I didn’t even know opportunities I’ve been given even existed! I just knew what I was passionate about and stuck with it. And I was rewarded for my dedication and hard work. Remember: photography is a continuous journey and growth comes in stages. You can take yourself and your business to heights you never imagined. Everyone's journeys look so different, and that is the beauty of it all. Glad I could share a little about my winding path with you! ❤️
