Hey guys! I’m @melissajill, a Phoenix-based wedding photographer who ADORES PhotoVision (who doesn’t, right?) and I have the pleasure of taking over their account for the next few days to share some of my work and talk film with you all! First off—a little about me. I’m a sweet potato fry enthusiast. Haven’t yet met one that I didn’t immediately consume. I’m a klutz—I’ve both ran into a cactus and have caught myself on fire on wedding days (thankfully, I managed to do both without a single witness). I’ve been chasing my dreams for 13 years now as a wedding photographer and entrepreneur. I get jazzed when two people find the person they want to love forever (being single myself and well-acquainted with the ins-and-outs of dating, I have an appreciation for what a miracle that truly is!) AND I love when clients turn into friends. I have been shooting film for just over 2 years now and shoot digital only in low-light situations that aren’t ideal for film. I have 6 associate photographers who shoot weddings for my brand (all digital) and I feel incredibly blessed to be on this journey where I am continually challenged to learn and grow. This image is from one of the first weddings I shot on film, and it shows off the primary reasons why I made the switch—first THE COLOR! Ahh!! Can’t get enough! And then there’s lighting, film handles harsh light so much more beautifully than digital. It’s truly an incredible medium. I hope to chat with you in the comments over the next few days. Thanks again to @photovisionprints for having me!

@melissajill Takeover Day 1: When photographing couples, I like to challenge myself to shoot wide shots and then get in tight on the same poses, and change up the angle. For me this keeps things fresh and oftentimes, I come away with compositions like this one, that I love!

@melissajill Takeover Day 1: This magical forest of Aspen trees that we came across during Layla & Joe’s engagement shoot was such a dream to shoot in! The white trees acted as huge reflectors and it made the light so soft, even though it was harsh outside the edges of the forest. Plus, as we all know, film makes everything magical.
