I express my emotion through my imagery—pouring my heart and soul into every photograph I make. I find that when I’m shooting, my emotions carry through my work. This particular image was taken in an abandoned mansion in New York, the space was dark and we chased the light as it moved from room to room. I remember thinking, “How am I going to make this work?” So I began to pull from my personal inspirations. My mind quickly went to one of history's most influential painters, Rembrandt, and I began to work with the light. I intended to create an image that could express both lightness and darkness.
This Irish couple wed in Italy, at the most beautiful venue. When it came time to shoot the couple’s portraits, we found a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle. Without any direction, the groom reached for his bride’s hand. It was in their simplest most natural state that this moment came to be. As photographers, we are surrounded by so much beauty— I am often reminded that beauty comes in the simplest of forms.
